Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on November 8th 2013. The impact was enormous and many were killed or severely injured. As with many natural disasters, the destructive effects of Typhoon Haiyan will take a long time to overcome which is why months later, the AskU community is rallying to help build shelters for families in the Philippines whose homes were washed away.
With a loan, these families can purchase corrugated galvanised iron sheets and plywood to construct a basic shelter that will keep them safe when monsoon season hits. Once the loan has been repaid it will go back into the program help another family build their own shelter.
